Ayurveda is an ancient medical science system originally used in India. It offers a holistic approach to all aspects of health, internally, externally and mentally.
There is a particular type of mind-body type for each of us, known as a dosha, in Ayurveda.
A dosha is like your individual design, which describes your unique body type, behaviors, and inclinations.
The Winter months display the qualities of the Vata Dosha, including cold, light, rough, mobile, clear, and subtle. Spring represents the Kapha Dosha. Kapha takes on the characteristics of heavy, soft, smooth, dense, cool, stable and cloudy. Summer shows up with heat, moisture, liquid, radiance, sour and sharpness.
Oftentimes the start of Spring brings on the onset of colds, congestion and swelling in the body. Similarly, Spring inspires new beginnings and fresh starts.
Studying the different types of Doshas can help you to understand any imbalances in the body as well as seek out facets that invite the body to thrive.
